EPO to Increase Filing Fees for Long Specifications
The EPO currently charges applicants an official excess page fee for specifications containing above 35 pages upon grant. Beginning on April 1, 2009, this fee will be front-loaded, so that it becomes payable on filing.
While the excess page fees are not very significant for most cases, you may be aware of PCT cases in the pipeline which have very long specifications and which might benefit from entering the regional phase before April 1, 2009 in order to defer the excess page charge until the point of allowance.
Similarly, any very lengthy domestic applications, which you intend to file directly in Europe over the next year with a priority claim, may benefit from filing early to beat the April 1 deadline.
